Frequently Asked Questons

Below are answers to the most often asked questions regarding hypnosis and hypnotherapy.

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural state that we enter into many times a day. Daydreaming, being engrossed in a book or being wrapped up in our own thoughts are everyday examples of the hypnotic state. It is simply a state of awareness where our concentration is internally focused.

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a form of therapy that uses hypnosis as a tool to quickly and effectively ease or eradicate an issue.

Who can be hypnotised?

Almost anyone can be hypnotised as long as they want to be. However, different people may experience different levels of hypnosis.

Are you “gone” when you are in a trance?

No, you are neither asleep nor “gone”. You can hear everything and you know what is happening, you are just comfortably relaxed In an armchair. However, some people report forgetting some of the experience as it was simply nicer to just enjoy being so relaxed.

Will I say or do anything I wouldn’t normally do?

No. A hypnotherapist cannot make you say or do anything that is outside of your values or beliefs.

Do you say things that you do not want to say?

No, the unconscious mind will only have access to the information, which is necessary for the problem to be solved and only to the extent that you can handle. Your unconscious mind will always protect you. You have full control over the situation and can continuously evaluate whether you want to answer any questions I ask you.

Are there any side effects?

No, it is a natural and resourceful state. The “worst” that can happen is that you fall asleep. I would of course wake you up again in that case. It is easy for a hypnotherapist to tell the difference between sleep and trance. You cannot get ‘stuck’ in hypnosis, even if I was to leave the room, you would come around again in your own time. Hypnosis is a natural state to be in.

Do you lie down or sit?

You sit comfortably in an armchair

Can you remember anything afterwards?

Yes, in most cases you remember everything. Some people choose to relax so much that their conscious mind “zooms out”, but the unconscious mind remembers everything and that is the most important thing.

How long is a session?

A session is about 2.5- 3 hours depending on the type of session.

Are the effects lasting?

Yes, typically a deep inner transformation occurs. You could say that the weed is pulled up by the roots. You create a new understanding on which to base your behaviour. A child who has learned to walk does not start to crawl again.
