Drug Addiction

drugs_iconCocaine addiction often creeps up on users who start using the drug recreationally which over time becomes heavy. Addiction occurs when the habit becomes compulsive and users often engage in a cycle of using and relapse until help can be sought to break the cycle and stop for good.

Although the initial decision to taking cocaine is voluntary for most people, the brain chemistry changes over time, which alters an addicted person’s self control and their ability to resist intense impulse to use drugs and the quantities used often get higher over time. This state called ‘tolerance’ is caused by wearing out the dopamine receptors in the brain which means that more of the substance is needed to reach that same ‘high’and the cycle is perpetuated.
